New Tees Create More Playability at Pine Lakes Country Club

As Pine Lakes Country Club prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2027, “The Granddaddy” continues to invest in the golfer experience.
The club recently completed the installation of two new sets of tees, creating six total teeing options and providing golfers with more opportunities to play the course at a length that best matches their ability. While the project adds only modest yardage to the historic layout, its greatest impact is improving playability and flexibility for golfers of all ages and skill levels.
Prior to the project, Pine Lakes offered four sets of tees ranging from 4,718 to 6,675 yards. While those yardages may not appear intimidating at first glance, Pine Lakes’ par-70 layout often played longer than golfers expected, particularly for mid- and higher-handicap players. The addition of two new tee sets helps bridge significant yardage gaps that previously existed between teeing grounds, allowing golfers to enjoy a more comfortable and enjoyable playing experience without diminishing the course’s challenge.
The new tee configuration includes:
- No. 6 – 6,737 yards, 72.8/142
- No. 5 – 6,377 yards, 75.6/140 (M), 77.4/143 (W)
- No. 4 – 6,068 yards, 69.6/133 (M), 75.6/140 (W)
- No. 3 – 5,542 yards, 66.9/126 (M), 72.7/134 (W)
- No. 2 – 4,866 yards, 63.8/109 (M), 68.5/124 (W)
- No. 1 – 4,025 yards, 60.9/102 (M), 63.7/108 (W)
The greatest beneficiaries of the project may be Pine Lakes members, senior golfers, and women, who now have more options to select a teeing ground that fits their game. At the same time, low- and mid-handicap players continue to enjoy the strategic challenges and classic design elements that have made Pine Lakes one of Myrtle Beach’s most respected courses for nearly a century.
Installed during the winter and spring of 2026, the new tees opened in late May. The project was completed with minimal disruption to play, a testament to the efforts of the Pine Lakes agronomy team. Updated scorecards are now available, and the new ratings have been incorporated into the USGA’s GHIN system.
As Pine Lakes approaches its centennial year, the addition of these new tees reflects the club’s ongoing commitment to preserving its historic character while enhancing the experience for future generations of golfers.
